AFSPRAAK

Memorabel tochtje.

DISDAIN
'Although CARICOM leaders expressed shock that Obama would fail to invite Bouterse to the White House reception last month in New York, the nexus of Obama's work in 1983 for the CIA and his mother's possible ties to Surinam's Javanese community to assist in the coup against Bouterse may lie at the heart of Obama's disdain for the Suriname President. Considering Obama's adoption of Nixon- and Reagan-era coup policies in Latin America, Bouterse should consider himself the next target for an Obama-authorized coup in Latin America. Unlike the coup against Zelaya and the attempt against Correa, a coup attempt against Bouterse could carry with it a family vendetta from President Obama, himself.'

ROADMAP
'A pharmacologist at Purdue Univ. has been especially valuable, Mr. Llewellyn says. Through his work studying brain receptors, Dr. Nichols has developed a range of psychoactive substances. His papers give a full description of the drugs he's using, including their chemical makeup. This provides Llewellyn and others with a roadmap for making the drugs.
Dr. Nichols says he's well aware of this fan club.
"The drugs we make often end up on the black market, and it's very troubling to me," he says. Particularly worrying is that the drugs are rarely tested in humans before hitting the street. Random people sometimes write to him to ask for help in making certain chemicals, he says. He doesn't reply out of caution.'

DOWN & OUT IN THE  OBA
'Oh, yeah, one of the security men said, "The disable toilets are only for people in wheelchairs!" What, no blind person is allowed?
I am reminded of "The Seven Commandments" for animals, in George Orwell's Animal Farm. One of the commandments reads, after first being posted, "No animal shall sleep in a bed." Later, in the book, some of
the animals noted that the pigs, who had taken over the farm house, were now sleeping on beds.
When they checked the commandments again, they saw this: "No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets."'

SPACE BASE
'Google is planning to build what amounts to its own town on a federal space base to house its employees and their families. When society inevitably collapses, Googleville will be the sole safe haven, but only those with company IDs will be allowed in.
The company will build out the equivalent of more than two TransAmerica Pyramids on the site of a federal space base in Silicon Valley. Though Google’s plans at NASA Ames/Moffett Field have long been simmering, a Freedom of Information Act Request from the San Jose Mercury News shined new light on the company’s plans.'
